CD (Item 440664) Do Right (Canada), 2007 — Condition: New Copy

A whole new level of genius from one of our favorite artists of the past few years – not just a remix of previous tracks by Elizabeth Shepherd, but some new tunes, cover versions, and live numbers as well! The collection is kind of a "1.5" stage in her career – a step past her amazing debut album, and a showcase for the sorts of exposure and circulation her music has gotten in the aftermath of its release. As on that set, the core grooves are from Shepherd on piano and vocals, plus bass and drums – used in a way that's far from standard jazz, and which is often tightly funky, in a club jazz sort of way! The remixes here bring in plenty of additional elements, many of them electric – but other cuts still have an all-acoustic feel, and remind us that even when she's getting outside help, Elizabeth Shepherd's still got plenty enough to offer on her own. Titles include the new numbers "Midnight Sun", "One Trump Card", "Soya", and "Open Your Eyes" – plus "Reversed (Nostalgia 77 rmx)", "Just Getting By (Eddy Meets Yannah mix)", "Circles (Alister Johnson mix)", "George's Dilemma (Daisuke Tanabe mix)", "Start To Move (Natural Self mix)", "Reversed (Circle Research demo)", "George's Dilemma (Jazzdance version)", "Just Getting By (Live on Gilles Peterson BBC Radio 1)", and "George's Dilemma (Do Right vs Earth Corporation mix)".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
