Sound Of Surprise – Live At The Pawnshop
CD (Item 375888) Dragon (Sweden), 1969 — Condition: New Copy
A tremendous little session from Swedish clarinet player Putte Wickman – exactly the kind of set to show you why he's one of the few great jazz musicians on his instrument in the 60s! Wickman blows with this beautifully deep tone – quite exotic at points, but also swinging nicely too – a blend that comes off perfectly in this live setting – with a haunting feel that's way more than you might expect from the clarinet in jazz – especially in the hands of stiffer players! Wickman's got the fluid, open tones of Tony Scott at the same time – with traces of Buddy DeFranco's sensitivity for bop, but none of the easier targes you'd hear from Buddy. Rhythm is from Lars Sjosten on piano, Sture Nordin on bass, and Per Hulten on drums – and tracks are long, with titles that include "Autumn Leaves", "Laura", "A Number", "Willow Weep For Me", and "Sous Le Ciels De Paris". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
