This nice soulful sleeper was not that recognized in the 70s, but in the 90s, it's become a huge favorite in the Chicago's steppers scene, thanks to the excellent two-step groover "Love's Gonna Last". It's a great cut, with sweet soulful vocals, and a totally catchy midtempo groove – and the whole album has a similar stepping groove, as well as an honest and intimate quality that shines through the otherwise slick arrangements. Other cuts include "All My Loving", "Take My Love", "Better Wake Up Girl", and "One Last Chance".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Band AKA
PPL/MCA, 1982. Very Good
The first album from this early 80s ensemble funk group – a full-on combo that comes on with the heavy-bass approach of the time, and who seem to have a strong suit in longer tracks that step along the dancefloor in a midtempo groove. Tracks are mostly jamming in a post-P-Funk mode – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Survival
Philadelphia International, 1975. Very Good
Not one of their most classic Philly LPs, but still a nice batch of soul tracks with the usual perfect Gamble-Huff production, and harmonies that definitely go the distance! Tracks include "What Am I Waiting For", "Give The People What They Want", "Rich Get Richer", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hi Records, 1971. Very Good
Al Green's first major album, and a killer batch of Memphis soul tracks with a sound that's a bit rawer than later years. The formula for the hits is firmly in place – and Al's beautiful voice is swept up wonderfully in very sympathetic production by the great Willie Mitchell. Although ... LP, Vinyl record album

Brass Construction
United Artists, 1975. Very Good
A classic set that goes "slam" from the very first note – and which helped to set the pace for countless ensemble funk acts to come! Brass Construction had a wonderful sound that was the best-realized version of the east coast indie club combos of the mid 70s – funky at the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michael, if only you'd stayed at this level! This 1979 solo album by Michael is a killer batch of soul grooves – one of his best moments ever, and a crowning cap to a stellar 70s run – both as a younger solo act, and with the whole Jackson family!
