Nat King Cole Meets Lester Young (Japanese paper sleeve edition)
CD (Item 616966) Crown/P-Vine (Japan), Mid 40s — Condition: New Copy
A great collection of bop sides from LA in the forties – tracks that feature a young Nat King Cole on piano, jamming with Lester Young on tenor and a bit of trumpet from Howard McGhee! Young's tone alone is more than worth the price of admission – beautifully firm and strong – blown in a way that rivals his best early performances for Verve, but perhaps even with a bit more grit and soul – an edge that makes these early recordings so important to his career. Dodo Marmarosoa plays piano on one track instead of Cole – and titles include "SM Blues", "Jammin With Lester", "I Can't Get Started", "Jumpin At Meaners", and "Indiana". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
