A long awaited full length set from the mighty Nick Rossi – the old school Hammond player who's been making some killer 45s over the past few years! For the record, Nick keeps things clean and lean – staying in a mode that's very much like the best Jack McDuff sides of the mid 60s – highly rhythmic grooves on the bottom that feature lots of sharp-edged changes that really break from the usual soul jazz organ bag. The combo here is totally tight – with guitar, tenor, and drums snap-stepping along with Nick's mighty lead on organ! And production is great too – never too bright, and always at the right level to respect the jazz side of Nick's work, while still allowing for a bit of deep funk in the bottom. Tunes are all longer than most of Rossi's 45s – and titles include "One More Head", "Monkey See Monkey Do", "Watch That Walk", "Near Wes", "Moonlark", and "The Grand Turk". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
