Hells Angels (Japanese paper sleeve edition)
CD (Item 468306) Openian/Bird Song (Japan), 1970 — Condition: New Copy
One of the grooviest albums we've ever heard from British jazzer Bob Downes – an early set on his own Openian Records label, and a batch of tunes with a nice blend of funky rhythms and modern solos! The style's a bit like Bob's better-known album for Deram – tightly composed, and with a very sharp ear for hip rhythms – but the overall feel is slightly looser too, although never entirely free. Players here are all top shelf – and alongside Downes on flute and sax, other group members include Harry Beckett and Henry Lowther on trumpet, Ray Russell on guitar, Herbie Flowers and Barry Guy on bass, and Laurie Baker on synthesizer. Titles include "Hell's Angels", "Whirlpool", "Apprehension", "City Route", "Blue Sheets", and "Walkin Runnin Man". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
