CD (Item 438165) Roof Music (Germany), 1950s/Late 70s/1980s/1990s -- Condition: New Copy
A wealth of rare material from Louis "Moondog" Hardin -- mostly tracks recorded during his expatriot years in Germany, but also some key bits from earlier years as well! The first disc features a 1995 date entitled Moondog Big Band -- one that adopts the Moondog musical ideals to larger group performance -- a mode that almost stretches back to Kenny Graham's late 50s presentation of Moondog's material in a similar format -- save for the fact that there's a bit less of a jazz focus going on here. The second CD features a variety of different tracks that begin with the CD debut of a number of German recordings from the late 70s and 80s -- running back to include some very early work from Moondog's sides on the Epic, Mars, Prestige, and Moondog labels from the 50s! It's quite nice to hear this full range of work from Moondog, especially in such a lavish package -- and as with other titles in this series, there's a really great booklet in the middle that's filled with notes, photos, writings, and other details about the music!
