LP (Item 491266) Wax Poetics, 2008 — Condition: New Copy

Really unique work from this hip Japanese combo – the brainchild of keyboardist Kensuke Saito, who plays some really wonderful electric piano and synth on the set! Although contemporary, the record's got a spacious, soulful feel that takes us back to some of our favorite 70s fusion – particularly the sort with a relatively laidback vibe, and an approach that's never too jamming. Saito's keyboard lines dominate the set in a really great way – spinning out with a simple, elegant sound and a great sense of rhythm and timing – and supported with beats that are equally spare, but nicely melodic as well. There's a nice sense of warmth to the whole record, but never in a slick or smooth jazz sort of way – kind of a combination of the core essence of 70s fusion with a slight 21st Century vibe! Titles include "Stone & Fruits", "Balancer", "Migrant", "Posse", "Farside", "Tony", "Black Coffee", "Synthetic Avenues", "Thinking Makes A Mistake", and "SEV". (Limited edition of 1500 copies.)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
