Bloom In The Commune (aka Burton Greene Quartet)
CD (Item 470592) ESP, 1966 — Condition: New Copy
The first ESP session from pianist Burton Greene – and arguably the best, thanks to some killer work from an assortment of sidemen! Despite the "Quartet" title of the record, the group here actually features more players than four – an array that includes Marion Brown on alto, Frank Smith on tenor, Henry Grimes on bass, and both Dave Grant and Tom Price on percussion. The horns alone are worth the price of admission – and Brown especially gives the record some sharp edges that really stand out nicely. Greene himself plays piano, piano harp,a nd a bit of percussion – and tracks are all long, with titles that include "Bloom In The Commune", "Taking It Out Of The Ground", and "Cluster Quartet".
