Just Wailin'

Just Wailin is right – as the album's a real cooker in the classic Prestige mode of the late 50s – and a record that shows lots of early bite from a young Herbie Mann! Mann's in the frontline, working alongside the heavy tenor of Charlie Rouse – and in company like that, it's hard not to sound great – especially when other group members include Kenny Burrell on guitar, Mal Waldron on piano, George Joyner on bass, and Art Taylor on drums. The album's got a tighter groove than a blowing session date – with lots of focused energy from all group members – yet more than enough breakout solo space for the stars.
