Prime material from Cannonball and David Axelrod – and despite the biblical leanings of the title, the record is pretty darn funky! As they did for the Zodiac, Cannonball and Axelrod take a trip through a host of cultural milestones – stopping along the way to turn each one into a new pillar of soul, working with Rick Holmes, who narrates the set in the same way he did on the Zodiac albums. Brother Nat Adderley and George Duke are among the players in the album's very funky backing – and tracks include "Make Your Own Temple", "Amani", "Space Spiritual", "Eternal Walk", and "Gone". Oh for the days of the double LP concept jazz record!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

For The Good Times
Prestige, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
One of Rusty Bryant's last albums for Prestige – recorded in that more-electric mode that graced the label's albums of the year 1973 – but in a style that's still pretty darn nice! The group's still a small combo – with Rusy on tenor and alto, plus with Hank Jones on electric ... LP, Vinyl record album
Prestige, 1974. New Copy (reissue)
A richly soulful album from tenor giant Rusty Bryant – and a set that mixes his older Prestige Records mode with the larger electric styles of the CTI generation! The group's bigger than on most of Bryant's other records of the time – some larger charts arranged by Horace Ott, who had ... LP, Vinyl record album

Monster funk from Hammond hero Reuben Wilson – an album of hard-burning, bad-walking tunes that are a fair bit different than most of his other work! Soul Sugar
Capitol, Late 60s. New Copy (reissue)
A fantastic album, and one of Jimmy's hardest to find! The set is quite different than most of Jimmy's other work – and it features short, hard, funky tracks that feel more like obscure 7" singles than any of Jimmy's straighter soul jazz work. It almost sounds like The JBs are backing ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1968. New Copy (reissue)
A masterpiece! This is one of David Axelrod's most perfectly realized albums – and it's a brilliant batch of baroque arrangements, jazzy solos, and slightly subtle funky bits! The album contains the much-sampled song "Holy Thursday", but the whole thing has a very similar feel to ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Late 60s. New Copy (reissue)
Sweet and funky organ work from the great Henry Cain – a little known player who recorded on some excellent sides for Capitol in the 60s, including some of the albums by Howard Roberts! Dave Rempis really goes over the top here – and Lasse Marhaug provides some bold electronics to match! A lost bit of funky vibes and Fender Rhodes – one of those few records that's as sublime as it is rare – like work by Billy Wooten or Lyman Woodard! A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects!
