Funky mid 70s Herbie – one his funkiest of the era! Herbie plays a host of kool keyboards (like Fender Rhodes, Arp, Hohner Clavinet, etc), and he's joined by a group that includes just about all of the Headhunters (Paul Jackson and Mike Clark in the rhythm section), as well as Wah Wah Watson, Stevie Wonder, Wayne Shorter, Bennie Maupin, and Harvey Mason. In many ways, one of Herbie's more underrated albums, and worth it alone for the mad, uptempo "Hang Up Your Hang Ups". Other cuts include "Bubbles", "Heartbeat", and "Sun Touch". What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Yet somehow, over all the years, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kudu, 1972. Very Good+
Sweet funky jazz from Grover Washington – an early standout session from his classic years on Kudu Records, put together with hip arrangements from the mighty Bob James! The record's got the same spacious sense of grooving as James' first few for CTI – a style that's funky fusion, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Brunswick, 1974. Very Good
An excellent album of jazzy instrumentals – one that features the combination of Lionel Hampton's vibes with the groovy Chicago soul production of Brunswick! Brunswick, 1972. Very Good+
A great little set of instrumental tracks from Hamp – set to some hipper-than usual Brunswick soul arrangements, by the likes of Eugene Record, Willie Henderson, Sonny Sanders, and Hamilton Bohannon! Bohannon turns out the best track on the album – the slow funky sample cut "Happin ... LP, Vinyl record album
