The work here is truly incredible – a range of demos, outtakes, and other rare moments that all offer up Aretha in a more personal, intimate setting – one that shows a bit more of the roots of her years before Atlantic in Columbia, sometimes with a bit more jazz in the mix as well. The overall feel is still very much the kind of soul you'll know from Franklin's Atlantic albums – especially as the set moves on into the early 70s – but there's a less-iconic feeling here that we really love – a way of getting past the legend, and even more into the person – at a level that's really helped rekindle our love of Aretha's music!
