Reflections – Steve Lacy Plays Thelonious Monk

Steve Lacy in one of his greatest modes – working here in a style influenced heavily by Thelonious Monk – one that not only made Lacy one of the first interpreters of Monk's music on saxophone, but also gave his modernist impulses a great sense of focus over the years! The album's an early example of Lacy's willingness to stretch out – and kind of takes Monk's already-modern style of the late 50s, and pushes it even further through expressions of Steve's horn. The group are very well suited to the outing – and includes Mal Waldron on piano, Buell Neidlinger on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums.
