Here's To Love

LP (Item 447639) Chi Sound/20th Century, 1981 — Condition: Used
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

4.80 11

One of Gene Chandler's later albums recorded for Carl Davis' Chi-Sound label. The poor fate of the Chi-Sound label helped this nice little modern soul gem fall into sidebar like oscurity, but the pulls from heavy Chicago soul talent like Tom Tom 84, Sonny Sanders, and Carl Davis, and it does a good job updating Gene's classic Chicago soul approach to a more modern soul-oriented groove. Includes the tracks "I'm Attracted To You", "Love Is The Answer", "Almost Daylight", "God Sent", "For The Sake Of The Memories", and "I've Got To Meet You". (Cover has a cutout notch.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A solid entry from Edwin Starr's late 70s comeback into the clubs – a set that's miles from his harder soul for Motown, but which still has some pretty great vocals overall! There's nobody like Billy Stewart at all – one of the first big overweight lovers in soul music, and still one of the best – and a godlike talent who was blessed with a voice that can still send us into raptures so many years later! A tasty set from Mandrill – one of their first records away from the Polydor label, but every bit as great as later efforts for that company, especially Mandrilland.
