CD (Item 609478) Cameo/Abkco, Early 60s — Condition: New Copy

An unusual cover for this package, and one that hardly gets at the 60s jazz recordings that lie underneath – some great work pulled from two different albums that Jimmy Wisner did for the Cameo/Parkway label! Wisner's partially known as an arranger of larger projects, but here he comes across as a great straight jazzman – playing mostly piano in small groups that feature a bit of vibes from Vince Montana, sweet flute from Don Shelton, and tenor from Les Arnold – all recorded in the Philly scene of the early 60s, with a hip, swinging sound that's mighty nice! Rhythms often get playful – and bring in some touches of bossa at points – and Wisner's piano really keeps up with the lively feel of the whole record – produced with a nice sense of echo that really makes him stand out. Tunes are all originals by Jimmy – and titles include "Time & Space", "Billy From Philly", "New Jersey Waltz", "Spanish Jazz", "Five To Four", and "Jasmine".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
