All Four One
CD (Item 610887) Spotlite (UK), 1991 — Condition: New Copy
A great later set from English player Harry Beckett – an album that not only showcases his cool compressed style of flugelhorn, but which also brings in three other players on the instrument – hence the title of the record! The album's got a solid swing that makes for a nice change from some of Beckett's more atmospheric records – a focus that makes the flugelhorn work even better than we might expect – especially when all four players are hitting lead lines together – creating this wonderful interplay that takes us back to the sounds of Art Farmer in the 70s, or the pairing of Clark Terry and Bob Brookmeyer. Other players include Jon Corbett, Chris Batchelor, and Claude Deppa on flugelhorn – and the tight rhythms are by the trio of Alastair Gavin on piano, Fred Baker on bass, and Tony Marsh on drums. Titles include "One For All", "White Sky", "Time Of Day", "Images Of Clarity", and "Happy 96". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
