Ain't That A Bitch

LP (Item 3289) DJM, 1976 — Condition: Used

LP, Vinyl record album

4.60 11

Maybe the best album that Johnny Watson cut during his DJM years – a totally tight, totally soulful set that avoids any fake funk cliches! The record's got some wonderful trippy numbers – cut in that slow g-funky mode that was Johnny's huge legacy to the west coast scene – best of these is the classic "Superman Lover", a great little cut with a very catchy hook, and just the right dose of humor. But you'll also catch the same vibe on "I Want To Ta Ta You Baby", "Ain't That A Bitch", and "I Need It". Johnny's sitting on the cover, surrounded by ladies and a dog – and the back cover says "My apologies to Freddie, my guitar, for forgetting to bring him to the photo session." What a guy! (Original pressing. Cover has some light wear and a couple of light stains.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Enchantment
United Artists, 1976. Very Good+
Soaring grooves and mellow moments – a perfect blend of 70s soul styles, summed up here beautifully by Enchantment! The album's one of the group's greatest – and certainly one that's been very well-remembered around these parts – thanks to some rock-solid arrangements from Johnny ... LP, Vinyl record album

On The Loose
Westbound, 1973. Near Mint-
A pretty sweet follow-up to Denise LaSalle's debut for Westbound – and like that set, another album recorded down in Memphis – with a razor-sharp sound that's far better than the treatment she got in later years! Arrangements are by Bowlegs Miller, who helped on the first – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

CTI, 1974. Very Good- Gatefold
A landmark album – not only for Bob James, but for CTI and the Fender Rhodes as well! This is the album where all the magic starts – the first of many extremely successful albums that Bob recorded during the 70s under his own name, and almost the birthplace of the modern hip hop ...
