LP (Item 585834) Luv N' Haight, Late 60s/Early 70s — Condition: New Copy

Incredible material from the formative years of Cali soul great Mike James Kirkland – singles and previously unreleased tracks that he recorded with his group Mike & The Censations in the years leading up to his underground soul classic LPs Hang In There and Doin It Right! Mike & The Censations were often lumped in with doo wop groups in their day, given Mike's roots in doo wop and gospel – but what you'll actually hear here is a range of soulful styles that dabbles in nascent 70s group soul and a little bit of funk – with charismatic vocals from Mike and perfect group backup vocals by the Censations (spelled with a C-, so they wouldn't be confused with the Philly Sensations). A stunner from our friends at Luv & Haight/Ubiquity – still the greatest champions of the work of Mr. Kirkland! Disc 1 is The Complete Story Of Mike & The Censations: "Victim Of Circumstance" (Pts 1 & 2), "Don't Mess With Me", "There's Nothing I Can Do About It", "Be Mine Forever", "Don’t Sell Your Soul", "Shopping For Love", "A Man Ain't Nothing But A Man", "I Need Your Lovin", "Baby What Are You Going To Do", "Split Personality" and more. The vinyl version includes more previously unreleased tracks on LP2 – exclusives to the limited edition vinyl version: "Feeling In My Heart", "I Need Your Love", "Strut On", "Love Is Back" and "Whirling Around". (Limited edition 2LP with exclusive unreleased tracks – and it also includes a CD featuring the Complete Story Of Mike And The Censations tracks (on LP1).)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
