Rare Live Recordings 1934 to 1959 (5CD set)
CD (Item 470594) ESP, 1930s/1940s/1950s — Condition: New Copy
A huge package of rare live work from Billie Holiday – essentially a CD collection of all of the previous LPs issued in the 60s and 70s by ESP! The work here really runs the gamut – as you might guess from the dates – and performances offer up an ever-changing picture of Billie Holiday from the years of her early fame to the final stretches of her life. Many titles are from radio, but others are from concert performances – and the sound quality is pretty decent overall – certainly enough so to let the vocals come through nicely. The package features 2 booklets of nice that trace Billie's live biographically along with the material offered – a nice inclusion that really helps ground the music. 5CD set features material from The Eddie Condon Show, The Art Ford Show, The Apollo Theater, Monroe's Uptown House, The Savoy Ballroom, the films New Orleans and Symphony In Black, The Steve Allen Show, and lots lots more. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
