Morricone Kill – Spaghetti Western Magic From The Maestro
CD (Item 374607) El (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s — Condition: New Copy
Was there anyone greater at dark and moody soundtracks than the mighty Ennio Morricone? We think not – and as this wonderful set will attest, the Morricone sound was a key part of the transformation of the western film at the end of the 60s – a force that helped open up dark new chapters of the genre, taking the dying western style deeper into the corridors of human doubt and despair. But always, amidst that despair, there was also a note of redemption – which is what made Morricone's work so compelling, and which is exactly what the compilers of this set get right about his music! The "western" here isn't a bunch of kitschy spaghetti themes – but a series of complex yet subtle themes – played out with varying orchestration that always allows a focus on a smaller instrumental mode – going past any genre expectations you might have for western soundtracks, and standing alone as a sub-category all to itself! 18 tracks in all – with titles that include "Mesa Verde", "I Crudeli Number 2", "La Corrida", "Il Mio Nome E Nessune", "I Crudeli", "Ricciolo", "Giu La Testa", "L'Arena", and "Un Umomo In Agguato". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
