Great LA soul jazz session featuring the deep Texas tenor of Curtis Amy and the funky organ of Paul Bryant! Also present is Roy Brewster, the great, under-recorded LA valve trombonist, whose playing here gives the session a nice round bottom. 5 long cuts, with earthy, bluesy solos, and a very swinging rhythm section. Titles include "Searchin", "Blues Message", "This Is The Blues", and "Goin Down, Catch Me A Woman". (Brown label stereo pressing, with deep groove. Cover has some wear, a split top and bottom seams with a bit of tape, and some staining along the bottom and opening.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Pacific Jazz, Late 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold
Very very very groovy stuff by this masterful jazz vibist, recorded with a sort of late 60s swingin' feel – but still very much in the pocket and warm as a summer breeze! Lytle has a pretty remarkable way of playing the vibes with speed and energy, yet the overall feel still has kind of a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pacific Jazz, 1963. Very Good+
One of the classic big band sessions cut for Pacific Jazz by LA soul jazz arranger Gerald Wilson. Prestige, 1961. Good
A real turning point in the career of Gene Ammons – a record that almost returns Ammons to his earthier roots, and in the process helps build up a whole new sound in soul jazz for the 60s! The "Jug" nickname in the title is kind of a joking way to help Ammons stand alongside "M ... LP, Vinyl record album
