LP, Vinyl record album

4.70 5

As if the screaming title didn't tell you enough, the album features Shank's Brazilian sides – apparently culled from his Pacific Jazz recordings from the 50s and 60s, featuring players that range from Laurindo Almeida to Chet Baker to Joe Pass, Clare Fischer, and Joao Donato. Bud's always at his best in these moments – and heck, some say he even invented the format! Titles include "If I Should Lose You", "Carioca Hills", "Summer Samba", "Elizete", "Nocturno", "Sausalito", "Otem A Note", and "Samba Do Aviao". (Cover has some wear and seam splitting.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Paul Horn In India
World Pacific, Mid 60s. Sealed Gatefold
Paul Horn opens up in a really cool way – definitely moving past his early modern jazz years, to become one of the first American jazzmen to explore the sounds of India! BJ4
CTI, 1976. Very Good+
The 4th in Bob James legendary run of Fender Rhodes classics for CTI – and a record that still has him working with the dark edges that made the first few so great! As usual with these sets, there's a way of putting over the groove that's really unique – not really funky, but spacious ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Note, 1972. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Brilliant work throughout – the last studio album ever cut by Lee Morgan, and a mindblowing session that always leaves us wondering how massive he would have become if he hadn't been tragically murdered shortly after it was recorded! The album's a huge change from Morgan's already-great work ... LP, Vinyl record album

East Broadway Run Down
Impulse, 1966. Sealed Gatefold
One of the most free-wheeling Sonny Rollins albums of the 60s – an album that features some very long, extended tracks that really break out from some of the straighter moments of Sonny's mid-60s recordings! The title track is an incredible 20 minute workout – one that almost feels ... LP, Vinyl record album
