Ernie Kovacs Presents Percy Dovetonsils Thpeaks

CD (Item 616186) Omnivore, 1960 — Condition: New Copy

One of the oddest albums ever recorded – a full set of spoken poetic odes, delivered by the Percy Dovetonsils character of Ernie Kovacs! Dovetonsils was one of Ernie's famous characters from his groundbreaking early work on TV – a comically lisping poet whose writings were often less the focus of his appearances than were his frequently tangential comments on life, and often on early TV production modes as well. The recordings here were done with slight musical accompaniment for a full album that was never released at the time – recorded with sounds that are somewhat different than Percy's TV appearances – especially given that there's less of the rambling asides, and more of the straight lyrical odes – but the whole thing's still a prize for those of us who love Kovacs' mad contributions to 20th century culture. Titles include "Ode To Mona Lisa", "Ode To Whistler's Mother", "Ode To Stanley's Pussycat", "Thought While Falling Off The Empire State Building", "Happy Birthday To A Bookworm", and "Ode To Sam The Taller Of The Two Monkeys". CD also features bonus tracks from the Kovacs Unlimited TV show too!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
