Bold work from saxophonist Rob Brown – a set with some very Ornette-like tones at times, but also a rich sort of energy that's all its own! The group is wonderful here – trumpet from Roy Campbell, bass from William Parker, and drums from Hamid Drake – the last two of whom set up these incredible rhythms for the record – tentative one minute, pulsing forward the next – really driving the horns with a strong sort of inspiration – giving them focus and drive, and really lifting the spirits of the whole set! Brown and Campbell often blow together on the heads, then break out in rich-voiced solos of their own – and in Rob plays both alto sax and flute on the record.
