Tropidelico
CD (Item 467166) Tru Thoughts (UK), 2007 — Condition: New Copy
A whole new sound for Quantic, and a great one too – a mixture of his older funk with newer influences from Latin music – all in a blend that's totally fresh, and very unique! This "Latin chapter" of the Quantic sound has been showing up a bit on remixes and singles over the past few years, but Tropidelico's the first full album to focus on the groove – a really compelling style that starts with the gritty funk of other Quantic Soul Orchestra albums, then brings in elements of salsa, Latin jazz, and boogaloo – and even a few more contemporary Latin modes as well! Quantic's inspirations don't just come from the New York scene, either – as there's strong echoes of sounds from Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, and elsewhere – proof of the ever-widening global interest in funk. The whole set's great – mostly instrumental, but with some key vocal moments as well – and titles include "Who Knows", "Lead Us To The End", "Tropidelico", "Panama City", "She Said What", "Regi Bugalu", "Melodious Wayfarer", "Marrakech", "Los Olividados", and "San Sebastian Strut". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
