Spacey disco, very much in the same mode as work by Alec Constandinos from the same time. No surprise, then, that the group does a cover of Alec's "Accidental Lover" – complete with strings, keyboards, and sex sounds – and they also do a pretty smooth club take on Jean Michel Jarre's "Oxygene", Vangelis' "Pulstar", and the classic moogy number "Magic Fly". The notes say "additional recording at Sigma Sound", with mixing by Tom Moulton – and we can't say that the whole thing was recorded in Philly, but it's also the Philly touches that really make it work. Mercury, 1978. Very Good+
Excellent work from this smooth Chicago vocal group! The album may well be the best the group ever recorded – and it features some stellar ballad work produced with a nice spacey tone, almost in a Rose Royce mellow mode – by Jerry Butler's Fountain Productions team and by Clarence ... King, 1970. Very Good
Further genius from James Brown at the start of the 70s – a record that's starting to show some of the more open-ended grooves he'd explore with the JBs on their own albums – longer, stretched-out tracks that are way more than simple funk and soul! There's a sense of freewheeling ... LP, Vinyl record album
