Big Star — Radio City ... CD 10.99

A record that may have never hit the radio city it wished for in the title – but a classic that's gone onto have an undeniable influence on so many scenes and styles over the years! This sublime second set from Big Star is even leaner and more focused than the first – a record that has the group losing Chris Bell, yet still retaining a lot of his influence – while the main focus moves over to Alex Chilton, whose ability to sing and write is simply mindblowing! The tunes have these dark, melancholy moments that are unlike anything either Chilton or rock had given the world up to the time – and really almost feel much more like work from a decade later in terms of execution and production. There's no easy labels, no easy terms you could ever hope to ascribe to the record – and that's fine, because it stands majestically well on its own. Titles include "O My Soul", "Life Is White", "Way Out West", "You Get What You Deserve", "Mod Lang", "She's A Mover", "Morpha Girl", "I'm In Love With A Girl".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

London/Abkco, Mid 60s. New Copy (reissue)
Essentially early Stones! 12 X 5 is The Rolling Stones at a very early, hard grooving peak, way back in '64. It's ground breaking stuff, in they they truly pave the way for so much of the soul, blues and R&B loving Anglos to come out of the Brit and US scenes in the months and years to come. ... Apple/EMI, 1966. New Copy (reissue)
Maybe our favorite Beatles album ever – a key set that bridges the catchiness of the early years and the sharper ideas of later albums – with a slightly sinister undercurrent that really keeps things fresh! The Roger Corman-Phil Spector year of the mighty Ramones! End Of The Century is a huge departure from the 1-2-3-4 burst and roar of the first 4 Ramones albums – a big ol' Phil Spector production – recorded concurrently with the filming of late 70s hottie PJ Soles dancing around in her ... Cotillion, 1970. New Copy (reissue)
The end of the road for the Velvets – but also one of the group's longest-lasting legacies! The sound is tighter than on earlier albums, with a bit more of a somber post-fix approach to rock and roll – one that really points towards the direction Lou Reed would take in his own work, ... Liberty, Late 60s. New Copy (reissue)
Heavy rock from a group who definitely live up to their name! The Heads work in a messed-up mix of late 60s rock styles – all pretty straightforward, but with elements of soul bubbling underneath a heady brew of psychedelic guitars and darker production. The set was put together by George ... LP, Vinyl record album

The only full album ever issued by tenor player Rocky Boyd – but a set so great, it's definitely made a name for him over the years! Time, 1959. New Copy (reissue)
One of the most fantastic hardbop albums of all time! Tommy Turrentine was the less-famous trumpet-playing brother of Stanley Turrentine – but he was a hell of a player in his early days, and he cut some amazing records with his brother during the younger years of his career.
