Two sidelong epic live recordings of Trane from the early 60s, capturing him at the height of his explorations of stretching standards to their limits, but before he really delved into the out side. Side 1 features an almost 20 minute rendition of "Bye Bye Blackbird" and side 2 is nealry as long a reading of "Traneing In", both by the classic quartet with McCoy Tyner, Jimme Garrison and Elvin Jones, recorded in europe in 1962.  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Angular modernism from George Russell – a record that's still strongly preoccupied with his interest in modes and tones, but which also manages to swing nicely as well! The group here is a sextet – with Eric Dolphy making a great appearance on alto and bass clarinet – alongside ... CD

One of the tasty blowing session albums that Jug cut for Prestige – remarkable in the quality of the players (Coltrane, Mal Waldron, Pepper Adams, and others), and in the relaxed easy groove of the solid soulful tracks.
