Blue-eyed funk from Kokomo – and a record that's got a surprisingly funky feel, despite it's slightly trippy cover! The group mix warm vocals with tighter grooves on the bottom – almost an Average White Band sort of feel at times, but maybe a bit more crossover on the sweeter tracks – but in a nice way! Production is relatively laidback, and instrumentation includes sweet flute from Mel Collins, plus a bit of Arp – on tracks that include an extended cover of Bobby Womack's "I Can Understand It", plus "Angel", "Kitty Sittin Pretty", "Forever", and "I'm Sorry Babe". (Cover has light wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

CBS, 1981. Very Good-
A later set from Barry – recorded at the beginning of the 80s with his wife Glodean! The album has Barry and Glodean singing together in a set of smooth modern soul duets – slightly different than his solo work, but with a subdued edge that's still very strongly in the Barry/Love ... Polydor, 1973. Very Good- 2LP Gatefold
A masterpiece of funky soul – and one of the greatest albums of the early 70s! It all comes together on this one – funk, soul, politics, and production – and the record is still one of the clearest examples of James Brown's genius that you'll ever find! First Minute Of A New Day
Arista, 1975. Near Mint- Gatefold
Gil Scott Heron's first album for Arista – very much in the mellow soul jazz work of his legendary album on Strata East! The record features some wonderfully moody jazz backing that really marks a shift in Gil's style – never going too far over the top, but hitting a sweet groove that ... LP, Vinyl record album

What It Is
Polydor, 1972. Very Good-
Wild weird stuff from Edwin Birdsong – an artist who's best known for his work with Roy Ayers during the 70s. This effort's got a very similar righteous soul sound to some of Roy's early work for Polygram – with a mix of jazz, soul, funk, and lots of cosmic wisdom – although ... LP, Vinyl record album

Philly Groove, 1972. Very Good
The Delfonics just kept on getting better and better! The longer the group recorded, the more they picked up this strange spacey quality that pushed them past some of their contemporaries of the early 70s. And on an album like this, they prove that they're way more than just Thom Bell puppets by ... LP, Vinyl record album
