Blue-eyed funk from Kokomo – and a record that's got a surprisingly funky feel, despite it's slightly trippy cover! The group mix warm vocals with tighter grooves on the bottom – almost an Average White Band sort of feel at times, but maybe a bit more crossover on the sweeter tracks – but in a nice way! Production is relatively laidback, and instrumentation includes sweet flute from Mel Collins, plus a bit of Arp – on tracks that include an extended cover of Bobby Womack's "I Can Understand It", plus "Angel", "Kitty Sittin Pretty", "Forever", and "I'm Sorry Babe". United Artists, 1976. Very Good

King, 1970. Very Good-
Further genius from James Brown at the start of the 70s – a record that's starting to show some of the more open-ended grooves he'd explore with the JBs on their own albums – longer, stretched-out tracks that are way more than simple funk and soul! There's a sense of freewheeling ... LP, Vinyl record album

RCA, 1971. Near Mint-
A great album filled with hard breaks, tight choppy guitars, and a deep funky sound. This is one of the best early albums by the Nite Liters, and it's filled with great grooves like "Funky-Doo", "Stinkin Charlie", and "K-Jee" – but just about every track is a ... LP, Vinyl record album
