One of the best blacksploitation soundtracks of the early 70's – not only for the great title cut by Bobby Womack, "Across 110th Street", but for the excellent hard-hitting instrumentals by J.J. Johnson, which are perfectly in the groove of the blacksploitation generation! Lots of wah-wah guitar, funky keys, and tight riffing by the band – especially on the cuts "Harlem Clavinette", "Hang On in There", and "Harlem Love Theme". Also features "Do It Right" and another vocal version of "Hang On In There", both by Bobby.  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Mind Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1978. New Copy (reissue)
A great little live album – one that's quite different than Gil Scott-Heron's double-length set for Arista – and a set that serves as a key bridge between his early protest work and his emerging vocal sensibility! The set features a fair bit of longer spoken passages – but unlike ... LP, Vinyl record album

ARC, 1968. New Copy (reissue)
A very hip tribute to Otis Redding – one that has The Majestics hitting hard in an instrumental mode that's almost like some of the Mar-Keys or Bar-Kays work on Stax from the mid 60s – tight drums on the bottom, Hammond and guitar grooving in the middle, and some occasional horns ... Wanted live by a million girls – and by a fair bit of crate-diggers too – given the rarity of this 70s soul set! The album's an obscure gem from a group with a really warm sort of sound – a bit modern soul mixed with boogie, and produced at a surprisingly strong level for such an ... LP, Vinyl record album

The Beatles had Abbey Road – and Booker T & The MGs had McLemore Ave, the main street running outside the Stax studios, and a fitting title for the album that has them playing tunes from The Beatles' incredible Abbey Road album. A mindblowingly good album from Earth Wind & Fire – one of the best we've heard from them in years, and a set that really lives up to all the faith we've had in the group over the years! The sound is right on the money – from performance to production – with a vibe that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bearsville/Light In The Attic, 1972. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
A near-perfect classic from the greatly under-appreciated Bobby Charles – a cat with who worked for Chess Records as far back as the 50s, but also managed to deliver this soul-drenched swamp rock gem in 1972! Wah Wah (Spain), 1968. New Copy Gatefold
A madly trippy soundtrack, played by a pre-Can lineup that includes Irmin Schmidt on vocals and guitar, Holger Czukay on bass, and Jacki Liebezeit on drums!
