Eternal Myth Revealed Vol 1 – 1914 to 1959 (limited edition 14 CD set)
CD (Item 513961) Transparency, 1920s/1930s/1940s/1950s — Condition: New Copy
An incredible archival project – one that traces the musical roots of Sun Ra from his earliest years right on up to the end of the 50s – linking Ra's compositions and performances with a surprising range of musical contemporaries, and telling a good deal of his history in the process! The package is spread out over a whopping 14 discs in all, and combines music and narration – the latter from some key Ra historians, the former from a wealth of 78s, 45s, and even unreleased session tapes – and not just jazz, but R&B, swing, blues, and vocal group material too! The depth is astounding, and the set is the first we've ever seen to illustrate the rich connection that Ra and the Arkestra have to 20th century music – to show, both through words and sounds, that they're not working on the fringe, "out there" on their own – but are instead coming from a complicated musical tradition which they interpret and make their own. The set comes with a heavy book that follows the CDs – with writings, photos, and even vintage label scans – plus other information as well. (14 CDs plus a 132 page 5" x 10" paperback book, all contained in a large box.) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
