Jump Up
CD (Item 600277) Hat Hut/Hatology (Switzerland), 1980 — Condition: New Copy
Two key members of Cecil Taylor's famous European trio of 1962 – reunited here in a really mindblowing performance! The set's a wonderful illustration of the growth that both Jimmy Lyons and Sunny Murray had experienced in the 70s – a way of playing in the very open, free modes learned from Taylor's generation – yet still giving things enough of a structure, and a surprisingly inherent sense of swing – even if it is kind of an offbeat, modernist one! Murray's as open as ever on the drums – really matching Jimmy Lyons' wonderful riffs on alto sax – and bassist John Lindberg helps ground the set – still following the energy of the two leaders, but hanging back just enough to give things a pulse, too. Tracks are long and free – and titles include "Jump Up", "Riffs #1", "Tortuga", "Sea Treas", and "Riffs #5". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
