CD (Item 593055) Solid State (Japan), 1968 — Condition: New Copy
Sublime vibes from a young Mike Mainieri – still working here mostly in a jazz mode, but also stretching out towards some of his experiments to come in the 70s! There's a dark sort of sound to the record – definitely an echo of the MJQ generation, but taken further too – and swing with a bit more of a relaxed style that shows Mike's youthful approach! The vibes have these amazing tones at times – really rich, chromatic elements that almost feel like a Fender Rhodes – and the group also sports great guitar from Joe Beck – plus bass from Lyn Christie, and drums from Don McDonald. Titles include "Rain Child", "Instant Garlic", "Minnesota Thins", and "La Plus Que Lente". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
