Helsinki Sessions
CD (Item 572776) Ricky Tick (Finland), 2011 — Condition: New Copy
We've loved these guys from the start, and they never let us down – and in fact, this album may have us loving the Five Corners Quintet more than ever! The set's a live one, but done with all the tight, soulful energy we've come to expect from the group's studio sessions – still steeped in a love of the best American and European jazz modes of the 60s – with an undeniable rhythmic pulse, and some especially tremendous solos! Some tunes here are familiar from the group's previous albums, but they're taken in really long versions, without any augmentation at all – an all-acoustic performance that really sparkles with tight tenor from Timo Lassy and soaring trumpet lines from the mighty Jukka Eskola. The piano, bass, and drums are completely riveting – and from the package right down to the sounds in the grooves, the record easily rivals the classic Blue Note or Prestige albums you might have in your record collection! Titles include "Unsquare Bossa", "Hot Rod", "Three Corners", "Shake It", "Skinny Dipping", and "Midnight In Trieste". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
