4.80 11

A lesser-known number by Fonda Rae – but one that's still plenty darn nice, and proof that she was one of the best singers on the early 80s club scene! "Heobah" has a romping, thumping intro that's nice and spare – beats and a bit of lightly riffing guitar that really set the scene before Rae's vocals come into the mix with sing-song lyrics that eventually give way to a deeper sort of sound. The cut's got a really playful, almost poppy sort of style – but one that's never that commercial either. (Label has some marker, a sticker, and a light stain.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Get Involved (album, inst)/What I Am (album, inst)
Hollywood, 1999. Near Mint-
Raphael Saadiq & Q-Tip's "Get Involved" is like a good Toni Tone Tony song with Q-Tip contributing a verse and a few words on the chorus. The b-side is Sy Smith's cover of the Edie Brickell hit "What I Am". We could do without the vocal version, but the instrumental is ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Paisley Park, 1987. Very Good (pic cover)
Groovy 12" single that features a number of different mixes of the track "10", by Prince's jazzy combo Madhouse. The single was the first from their second album, and it also features the track "2" from the group's first album. Nice pic sleeve, too! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Philadelphia International/Expansion (UK), 1976/1979. Near Mint- (reissue)
2 of Jean Carn's best tracks for Philly! Both cuts show Jean at her soulful best – with the kind of perfectly sensitive backing that Philly International gave her, which mixed jazz and soul, augmented with a nice clubby groove to keep things pumping. The single's a must-have for fans of ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
