A lost vocal set by Tom Lellis – a virtually unknown singer with a sound that's a lot like Mark Murphy in the 70s! Like Mark, Tom's got a richly expressive voice and a love for vocalizing classic jazz tunes. He's also a heck of a songwriter, too – and has penned about half the tracks on this set, including some really nice little tunes with a soulful approach that pushes past Murphy's usual way of putting over a song. The group on the album's great, too – and includes Ron Busch on vibes, Jeremy Steig on flute, and Eddie Gomez on bass. Titles include versions of Keith Jarrett's "Lucky Southern", Miles Davis' "ESP", McCoy Tyner's "Man From Tanganyika", and Chick Corea's "Times Lie" – plus the original tunes "Lluvia", "One On One", "Nightshades", and "Atlantis Pompeii & Athens". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
