Teddy Pendergrass – we love you! This is one of Mr. P's greatest albums of smooth mellow soul – recorded after he left Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, and began working in a wonderfully warm solo style that had a huge influence on male vocal soul for years to come! The sound here is tremendous – nearly perfect all the way through, with a great balance between class, sophistication, and soul – clearly an indication that Teddy made the right move by going on his own. The record features the classic "The Whole Town's Laughing At Me", plus lots of other nice material like "Be Sure", "Somebody Told Me", "You Can't Hide From Yourself", "Easy Easy Got To Take It Easy", and "The More I Get The More I Want".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Unemployment Blues
Philadelphia International, 1976. Very Good+
Nice Philly groove record by this obscure funky band from the 70's. The title cut, "Unemployment Blues", is a brassy funky track with political lyrics, but our favorite cuts on here are the smoother soul cuts, like "Baby I'm Yours" and "Toy Ball", which has a nice ... LP, Vinyl record album

Laura Lee
Hot Wax, 1972. Very Good+
A standout set from the great Laura Lee – a deep soul singer with power to rival the greatness of Aretha Franklin, but one who's also got a funkier punch to her music too! The album's a great blend of late 60s female southern and tight 70s bad sister funk – a style that's a bit like ... LP, Vinyl record album

I'm Doin' Fine Now
Chelsea, 1972. Near Mint-
Man, that east coast harmony sound couldn't miss in the 70s – as proven by the huge AM radio success of New York City! The band wasn't the greatest harmony group in the world – although they did feature John Brown, who'd cut his teeth in the Five Satins – but when you teamed them ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eddie Kendricks
Tamla, 1973. Near Mint-
A classic LP that forever transformed the sound of dancefloor soul! Eddie scored big big big with the hit "Keep On Truckin", which was a huge huge stormer back in the day, and which still grooves hard today – with it's midtempo boogie mode of grooving. Eddie's great on the mellow ... LP, Vinyl record album
