An excellent album from funky guitarist Wilbert Longmire – probably his best, in our opinion! The album was recorded in LA with some very hip arrangements from Joe Sample – at the head of a largeish soul jazz group that includes usual suspects from the LA scene, like Paul Humphrey, George Bohannon, Anthony Ortega, and Wilton Felder – plus a young Leon Spencer on organ, who turns out some excellent solos with a very groovy touch! Includes a totally great version of James Brown's "Give It Up or Turn it Loose" – done with a nice little kick – plus takes of "This Guy's In Love With You", "Galveston", "Revolution", "Theme From The Fox", and "Scarborough Fair". Right On Brother
Prestige, 1970. Very Good
A fantastic album of funky jazz guitar – by one of the best players in the genre! This is Ivan's first truly sublime album – a set that showed the world that he was easily one of the greatest jazz guitarists of his generation – able to spin out single-note jams with a speed and ... Verve, 1968. Near Mint-
A very groovy album that has Milt playing jazzy vibes with a tight string quartet that does more than just back him up – they sort of solo and provide some rhythm, too, and give the whole album a very very cool sound. The rest of the lineup's great, too, because James Moody is all over the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Whip (original pressing)
Prestige, 1973. Very Good+
Amazing stuff from Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones! Unlike some of the other players on Prestige during the early 70s – who often got a bit weaker as the decade moved on, thanks to the departure of some of the better forces arranging and producing the records – Jones kept on playing hard, ...
