CD (Item 466165) Discos Fuentes/Creole Stream (Japan), Early 70s — Condition: New Copy

Killer Latin work from Fruko – one of the hippest cats ever to record for the Discos Fuentes label in Colombia – and one of the company's few artists who could really rival the strength of the New York scene! This batch of tracks from the early 70s has Fruko really stretching out in some jamming tracks that mix descarga roots with salsa rhythms – and often bring in a few Columbian touches as well – all with a sound that's starkly bracing, and instantly compelling from the get-go! Most tunes build strongly from full-on percussion and piano, and although vocals are featured, they often have the same inflections and instrumental affinities as the horn parts that top out the tracks. Titles include "Full Salsa (parts 1 & 2)" – which together take up nearly 30 minutes of the CD – plus "Los Niches", "Mi Verdadero Son", "Lamento Cubano", "Mana Mana", "Tihuanaco", "Descarga Fruko", "A Bailar Oriza", and "El Muerto Vivo".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
