Seun Kuti & Fela's Egypt 80
CD (Item 474776) Disorient (UK), 2008 — Condition: New Copy
The long-awaited full length set from Seun Kuti – the Fela family member who's got even more of his father's groove going on than Femi Kuti! Seun's working here with the Egypt 80 band, who are in razor-sharp formation throughout – hitting rhythms and instrumental passages that show they haven't missed a bit since the departure of their famous founder. But the sound is also way more than just simple Fela-reworking too – as there's a bit more sophistication and depth to some of the instrumentation too, almost a new sense of jazz in the music that really shows up in the horn parts, which are all pretty darn wonderful. Seun plays alto sax and plenty of great organ lines, and also sings too – but the whole group is wonderful, and the album's a really collaborative affair! Recorded in Lagos, with really beautiful sound – and a set of 7 tracks that includes "Na Oil", "Many Things", "Don't Give That Sh*t To Me", "Think Afrika", "Fire Dance", "Mosquito Song", and "African Problems". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
