Soul & Jazz Of Timo Lassy

CD (Item 467998) Ricky Tick (Finland), 2007 — Condition: New Copy

A brilliant full album of work from saxophonist Timo Lassey – one of the standout stars of the Ricky Tick/Five Corners Quintet club jazz scene in Finland – grooving hard here in an excellent combo that's heavy on modal rhythms – all produced to perfection by the amazing Teddy Rok! As with other Ricky Tick work, there's an instant classic groove going on here – a re-awakening of jazz for the groovers – with a depth and strength that easily rivals Blue Note or Prestige in the 60s, but which is almost even better – given the youthful freshness of the tunes and players. Lassy plays tenor, baritone, and flute – and other players include Jukka Eskola on trumpet, Mikko Mustonen on trombone, Georgios Kontrafouris on piano, Antti Lotjonen on bass, and Teppo Makynen on drums, percussion, and vibes. Titles are all originals – and include "Early Move", "Love Moan", "African Rumble", "Live At The Timber Yard", "Universal Four", and "Weldon".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
