CD (Item 474415) Delmore, Early 60s — Condition: New Copy

Some of the earliest studio work ever from Karen Dalton – recorded in a very stripped-down setting that only features banjo or 12 string guitar for accompaniment! The style here is very much in that traditional-into-modern mode of early Dylan – sounds that are rooted in earlier folk styles, but set to themes that are much more bracing and contemporary – delivered with an unabashedly direct style in Dalton's rough-edged vocals. There's a bit of overdubbing on the instrumentation, but not much – and even though recorded in the studio, there's a liveness to the material that's great – like catching Dalton at some small coffeehouse gig in the early 60s. Titles include "Green Rocky Road", "If I Had A Ribbon", "Red Apple Juice", "Katie Cruel", "Little Margaret", "Skillet Good & Greasy", "In The Evening", and "Nottamun Town".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
