Rhonda Clark — Between Friends (with bonus tracks) ... CD 9.99

A great set of modern soul Rhonda Clark – one that really should have catapulted to super-stardom in the late 80s! Rhonda has the goods here – crisp, modern productions that are as strong as any R&B circa '89 – a diverse, attractive voice and a bunch of great songs. We can't fathom why it didn't top the charts at the time, but it's really strong stuff! Between Friends has production on Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on the masterful single "State Of Attraction"– and their on board as musicians on some other tracks, too – with production by Randy Ran, Chuck Howard and Jellybean Johnson. Titles include "Does That Make A Man", "I Love Your Body", "Sugar", "Stay Here, Stay Near", "Now Matter How", "Sugar" and "Between Friends". (Out of print.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Tabu/Sony, 1987. Used
One of the crowning achievements of Alexander O'Neal – a set that uses cool little intro tracks to help structure the standout songs on the set – giving the whole thing a much more well-conceived approach than other mainstream soul albums of the time! Some of the cuts draw from O'Neal's ... CD

The seminal first album from the SOS Band – a record that really showcases the new sound of soul for the 80s, yet still holds onto all the best elements of the previous decade too! These guys have a great ear for groovers – well-demonstrated by the play they got on the dancefloor ... CD
Tabu, 1978. Used
A tremendous little album from Brainstorm – funky and clubby at the same time – yet delivered with this righteous energy that few of their contemporaries could ever hope to match! There's a perfect melding of modes going on here that may well rival Earth Wind & Fire at their best ... CD

Tabu (UK), 1989. Used
Nothing too raw here, as the set's from late in the great 80s run of the SOS Band – and shows the group very much at the top of their tight powers! There's a bit more beats than the basslines of the early days, but the SOS crew are still plenty darn funky – and pepper the tunes with ... CD
Fragile
Tabu/Right Stuff, 1984. Used
Nothing Fragile here – as Cherrelle comes across with plenty of power on this debut LP – thanks to sharp production from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on some of the best cuts, and an overall groove that's right on the best side of early 80s soul! The Jam/Lewis tracks are heavy on ... CD
Tabu (UK), 1985. Used
Sweet 80s grooves from Cherrelle – a set that really has the singer cooking strongly with the production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis – complete with all the heavy beats you might expect! Jam and Lewis borrow plenty of bottom sounds from the styles of hip hop and electro, and do a ... CD

Rev-Ola (UK), Early 50s. Used
Hard-wailing work from the legendary Johnny Otis – and an overstuffed collection of his early 50s recordings for the Mercury and Peacock labels! These sides aren't reissued as often as some of Johnny's other work – especially his Savoy and Capitol recordings – so the CD's a bit ... CD
Epic/Luaka Bop, 1974. Used
An insanely wonderful album! Shuggie Otis is the son of Johnny Otis – the LA R&B maestro who was moving heavily into funk at the end of the 60s – and he has this tripped out, super-dope guitar style that he played to strong effect on Johnny's albums of the late 60s and early 70s, ... CD
