A recent session, but a nice one from soul jazz legend Nat Adderley! The set features young lion Vincent Herring on alto, and in a way, the whole thing's got that tight revivalist soul jazz style that graced some of the best young lion sessions of the early 90s. The alto/cornet frontline nicely duplicates the old Adderley Brothers sound, but the overall style's much more evolved, with some nicely evocative writing and soloing that makes the album rich in colors and tones. Backing's by Jimmy Cobb and Walter Booker – and titles include "Azule Serape", "Big P", "Mo's Theme", "Arriving Soon", and "Talkin Bout You Cannon". (Out of print.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
