An amazing album – and one of the underground soul jazz classics of the 70s! The album's also one of the few ever cut as a leader by drummer Roy Brooks – one of the hippest players on the Detroit scene back in the day, working here with a great lineup that includes Woody Shaw, George Coleman, and Cecil McBee. The album has a very different feel than most other work on Muse at the time – much more like an album on Strata East – majestically spiraling out with a spiritual soul jazz groove, on four extended tracks that include "The Free Slave", "Understanding", and "Will Pan's Walk".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

For The Good Times
Prestige, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
One of Rusty Bryant's last albums for Prestige – recorded in that more-electric mode that graced the label's albums of the year 1973 – but in a style that's still pretty darn nice! The group's still a small combo – with Rusy on tenor and alto, plus with Hank Jones on electric ... LP, Vinyl record album

Catalyst, 1976. New Copy (reissue)
Very different work than usual from Frank Foster – and pretty darn great! Funky organ and plenty of vamping – a really tight little set from the mighty Charles Kynard – who's working here with a really wide-ranging command of the keyboard! Late 60's issue of a record that's also known as Rocket Number Nine Take Off For The Planet Venus. The material was recorded in 1959 and 1960, but unissued until the mid 60's.
