LP (Item 373635) MPS (Germany), 1968 — Condition: Used

LP, Vinyl record album

4.80 5

A well-titled set – in that it's got Oscar's piano in a fairly loose, soulfully relaxed setting with Sam Jones on bass and Bob Durham on drums. The album was recorded by MPS wizard Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer in his own home – and it's an excellent example of the label's scene at its most relaxed mode. Tracks are longish, but never too self-indulgently so – and titles include "Waltzing Is Hip", "Satin Doll", "Love Is Here To Stay", "Sandy's Blues", "Alice In Wonderland", and "Noreen's Nocturne". (Later US pressing on Pausa.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Rollin
MPS, 1981. Very Good+
Freddie Hubbard's definitely rolling on this great little set – rolling right back into acoustic jazz territory after a run of smoother soul sessions for bigger labels at the end of the 70s! The album's a live one, and it's a perfect example of the development of Hubbard's solo skills at the ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the most beautiful albums Friedrich Gulda ever recorded for MPS – a wonderful session that features key solo work from players who include Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, JJ Johnson on trombone, and Sahib Shihab on flute and baritone sax! One of Gulda's more out efforts, and one that features mostly solo work, apart from a few other tracks with additional percussion by Klauss Weiss. The set includes a hilarious "Variations On Light My Fire", which Gulda had recorded earlier in a funkier version – plus other ... LP, Vinyl record album

Trip, 1966. Sealed
Trip issue of material from Randy Weston's under-issued years of the mid 60s – just 3 long tracks that are all totally great! Randy's playing with a group that's similar in spirit to that used on the classic African Cookbook – Ray Copeland on trumpet, Frank Haynes on tenor, Bill Wood ... LP, Vinyl record album
