A long-overdue set – one that finally gives credit to the huge amount of British funk artists from the 60s and 70s! A few of the names on this set are ones that you'll recognize – and given that some of the artists in the package sold a fair bit of records in the US, we can bet that there's a few here that will have you saying "No really – they're British?" And to that, we can only reply "yes indeed" – and give thanks to compilers Bluey, Quentin Scott, and Jon Newey for reminding us that back in the day, England was a pretty well trusted outlet for harder-hitting soul music! In fact, given the post-colonial shifts of the time, and the range of West Indian and African influences that were percolating on the London scene, it could almost be said that the grooves here were even farther-thinking than those in the US. But as you'll also hear on the set, the main focus here is on tight, in-the-pocket funk tracks – those that stand neck and neck with the best American funk hits of the time – and including more than a few that have been samples heavily over the years! CD features 18 tracks in all – with titles that include "Funky Like A Train" by The Equals, "Super Bad" by Jabba, "No Way" by Gonzalez, "Uphill Peace Of Mind" by Carol Grimes, "The Vulture" by Labbi Siffre, "Ole" by The Funkees, "Comin Atcha" by Madeline Bell, "Woman To Woman" by Joe Cocker, "Sideway Shuffle" by Linda Lewis, "Person To Person (demo version)" by Average White Band, and "Brothers On The Slide" by Cymande.  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
