Let It Be Written Let It Be Sung (Japanese paper sleeve edition)

CD (Item 601672) Verve (Japan), 1973 — Condition: New Copy

A compelling solo project from Ellie Greenwich – one of a handful of dates she recorded as a singer – stepping out of the Brill Building shadows to go for the same sort of fame received by some of her songwriting contemporaries! The groove here is great – kind of sweet and jazzy at times – as you might expect from the album's placement on Verve – with arrangements by Artie Butler that are smooth, but never in the slick sort of 70s AOR way – especially because they know when to step back and really let the vocals take the lead. All tracks are originals by Greenwich, including classics from her years with Jeff Barry – redone nicely here in a 70s mode – and titles include "Maybe I Know", "Today I Met The Boy I'm Gonna Marry", "If You Loved Me Once", "Be My Baby", "Getting Together", "Goodnight Baby/Baby I Love You", "Chapel Of Love", and "What Good Is I Love You".
